Description

Experience the classic comfort of Salisbury steak in a convenient, bite-sized format. These tender beef meatballs are simmered in a rich, velvety gravy packed with aromatic onions and savory mushrooms. Perfect for busy weeknight dinners, this recipe uses a breadcrumb panade to ensure moisture in every bite, delivering deep umami flavors without the need for time-consuming patty shaping.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb Ground Beef (85/15 ratio)
1/2 cup Panko or breadcrumbs
1/4 cup Milk
1 medium Onion, finely diced
8 oz Cremini or white button mushrooms
2 cups Halal-certified beef broth
1 tbsp Tomato paste
1 tsp Halal-certified Worcestershire sauce
Olive oil for cooking
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste

Instructions

In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, salt, pepper, and half of the diced onion until just combined.
Shape the meat mixture into golf-ball-sized spheres using lightly greased palms.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
Sear the meatballs in the skillet on all sides until golden brown, then remove and set aside.
Using the same skillet, sauté the remaining onions and sliced mushrooms until softened and well-browned.
Whisk in the tomato paste, halal beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Return the meatballs to the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the gravy.
Simmer for 10 minutes or until the gravy has thickened and the meatballs are cooked through.

Notes

Ensure your Worcestershire sauce is explicitly labeled as vegan or halal-certified to avoid anchovy or alcohol content. Serve these meatballs over creamy mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles for the ultimate comfort meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
