Description

Experience the classic comfort of traditional cabbage rolls in a fraction of the time. This deconstructed casserole layers tender chunks of green cabbage with savory seasoned ground beef, aromatic vegetables, and a rich tomato-based sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, this hearty one-pot meal captures deep, slow-cooked flavors without the tedious labor of rolling individual leaves, resulting in a nourishing dinner that the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale

1 large head green cabbage, chopped into 2-inch chunks
1.5 lbs 85/15 ground beef
1 medium onion, finely diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups cooked white rice
28 oz tomato sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 cup halal-certified beef broth
1 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F.
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the onion over medium-high heat until cooked through.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
In a separate bowl, mix the tomato sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, and smoked paprika.
In a deep baking dish, spread half of the chopped cabbage as a base layer.
Top with the cooked beef mixture and the cooked white rice.
Cover with the remaining cabbage.
Pour the tomato sauce mixture evenly over the entire casserole.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cabbage is tender and the sauce is bubbly.

Notes

Ensure all beef broth used is halal-certified. For extra flavor, you can sauté the cabbage briefly before layering to give it a head start. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
