Description

A nutritious and satisfying one-pan meal perfect for busy weeknights. This skillet dish masterfully combines savory ground beef with tender sautéed cabbage and hearty basmati rice. Each bite is infused with aromatic garlic, onion, and a touch of soy sauce, creating a balanced, protein-rich dinner that ensures minimal clean-up. It is a wholesome, family-friendly recipe that delivers consistent results in under 40 minutes, making it a reliable staple for your rotating dinner menu.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb lean ground beef (85/15)
4 cups shredded green or savoy cabbage
1 cup cooked basmati rice (chilled)
1 medium onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
0.5 cup halal beef broth
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1 tsp paprika

Instructions

Heat the olive oil in a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for four minutes until translucent.
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.
Toss the shredded cabbage into the skillet and sauté until it begins to wilt.
Pour in the halal beef broth, soy sauce, and paprika, stirring to combine all ingredients.
Fold in the cooked, chilled basmati rice and continue to cook for 5-7 minutes until the rice is heated through and has absorbed the pan juices.
Adjust seasoning if necessary and serve warm.

Notes

Use day-old chilled rice for the best texture as it prevents the dish from becoming mushy. Ensure your beef broth is certified halal to adhere to dietary requirements. You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you prefer a slight heat.
