Description

Comforting and delightful, these Sugar Snails are a sweet treat that offers warm cinnamon flavors wrapped in tender dough, topped with a delicious glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup Warm Milk (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
2 ¼ teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
¼ cup Granulated Sugar, plus 1 teaspoon for yeast
1 Large Egg, room temperature
¼ cup Unsalted Butter, melted and cooled, plus 2 tablespoons for filling
½ teaspoon Salt
3 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour, plus more for dusting
½ cup Packed Light Brown Sugar, for filling
1 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon, for filling
2 cups Powdered Sugar, for glaze
34 tablespoons Milk, for glaze
½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract, for glaze

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Combine warm milk and 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar in a large bowl. Sprinkle yeast over top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy
  2. Prepare the Dough: Add remaining ¼ cup granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well and gradually add flour, about a cup at a time, until dough comes together
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead dough for 7-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Avoid adding too much extra flour
  4. First Rise: Grease a large bowl with oil, place dough in the bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled
  5. Make the Filling: Combine light brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter
  6. Roll and Fill: Punch down the dough, roll into a large rectangle, spread melted butter, and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture
  7. Shape the Sugar Snails: Roll the dough tightly from one long edge and pinch the seam closed
  8. Slice the Rolls: Cut the log into 12 even slices, about 1.5 inches thick
  9. Second Rise: Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy
  10. Bake the Sugar Snails: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brow
  11. Prepare the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth
  12. Glaze and Serve: Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve

Notes

Store cooled Sugar Snails in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Freeze for longer storage.
