Description

Soft Cheesy Pretzel Dogs are a comforting and delicious snack featuring savory hot dogs wrapped in soft, chewy pretzel dough with gooey melted cheese. Perfect for family gatherings, game days, or a cozy dinner, these homemade treats combine nostalgia with flavor excellence.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy
  2. Prepare the Dough: Add flour, salt, and melted butter to yeast mixture, and mix until smooth and elastic
  3. First Rise: Grease a bowl, place the dough inside, cover, and let rise until doubled (1 to 1 ½ hours)
  4. Preheat Oven & Prep Baking Sheets: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line baking sheets with parchment
  5. Prepare Hot Dogs and Cheese: Cut cheese slices in half and unwrap hot dogs
  6. Shape the Pretzel Dogs: Divide and roll dough into ropes, wrapping around hot dogs and cheese tightly
  7. Prepare Baking Soda Bath: Boil 10 cups of water, add baking soda, and reduce to a simmer
  8. The Pretzel Bath: Boil pretzel dogs in baking soda bath for 30 seconds on each side
  9. Transfer to Baking Sheets: Place the boiled pretzel dogs on prepared sheets, allowing excess water to drai
  10. Egg Wash and Salt: Brush with beaten egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt
  11. Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cheese is bubbly
  12. Serve: Cool slightly before enjoying warm

Notes

Dough can be stored in the refrigerator after the first rise for up to a day.

These pretzel dogs can also be frozen and reheated for later enjoyment.
