Description

This Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe delivers a depth of flavor that store-bought varieties simply cannot match. You control every ingredient, ensuring no preservatives or artificial flavors. It's easy to make, customizable, and adds a gourmet touch to your meals.

Ingredients

Scale

2 tablespoons Olive Oil
1 medium Yellow Onion, finely diced
4 cloves Garlic, minced
1 (15-ounce) can Tomato Sauce
½ cup Tomato Paste
½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
½ cup packed Light Brown Sugar
¼ cup Maple Syrup or Honey
2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika
1 teaspoon Chili Powder
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
½ teaspoon Ground Cumi
½ teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (optional)
½ cup Water or Vegetable Broth
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute
  2. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, maple syrup (or honey), and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine
  3. Stir in smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix to evenly distribute
  4. Gradually add water (or vegetable broth) and liquid smoke (if using). Stir to incorporate
  5. Bring sauce to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally
  6. For a smoother sauce, blend carefully until desired consistency is reached
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving

Notes

This sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks or frozen for up to 3-4 months.
