1 medium Yellow Onion, finely diced

½ cup packed Light Brown Sugar
¼ cup Maple Syrup or Honey
2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
½ teaspoon Ground Cumi
½ teaspoon Salt

½ cup Water or Vegetable Broth
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute
- Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, maple syrup (or honey), and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine
- Stir in smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix to evenly distribute
- Gradually add water (or vegetable broth) and liquid smoke (if using). Stir to incorporate
- Bring sauce to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally
- For a smoother sauce, blend carefully until desired consistency is reached
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving
