Description

Soft, olive-oil-rich focaccia bread baked to perfection and layered with fresh Italian-inspired fillings for the ultimate sandwich experience.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Focaccia Bread:

  • 4 cups bread flour (or all-purpose)
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1  ½ cups warm water
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil (plus more for brushing)

Suggested Sandwich Fillings:

  • Fresh mozzarella slices
  • Prosciutto or mortadella
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Roasted red peppers
  • Arugula
  • Pesto sauce
  • Tomato slices
  • Goat cheese
  • Grilled zucchini
  • Hummus
  • Avocado slices

Instructions

1. Mix bread flour, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.

2. Add warm water and olive oil, stir until sticky dough forms.

3. Cover bowl and rest dough for 30 minutes.

4. Let dough rise at room temperature for 2 hours, or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.

5. Oil a baking sheet, stretch dough into rectangle, dimple with fingertips.

6. Drizzle with more olive oil and bake at 450°F for 20–25 minutes until golden.

7. Cool slightly before slicing horizontally for sandwiches.

8. Spread pesto or chosen sauce on bottom layer.

9. Add cheese, meats or vegetables, then fresh greens.

10. Top with the other half of bread, press gently, slice, and serve.

Notes

Thinner focaccia is easier to bite when making sandwiches.

Use barrier layers like cheese or greens to prevent sogginess.

Mix fillings for vegetarian, vegan, or classic Italian variations.

Bake bread in advance and store in freezer for quick assembly later.
