Description

Crispy Mac and Cheese Balls are a delightful twist on a classic comfort food. With a golden, crunchy exterior and a creamy cheese interior, these balls are perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in. They offer a playful way to use leftover mac and cheese and are sure to please both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently, until thickened (about 3-5 minutes). Stir in salt, black pepper, and optional nutmeg
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the cheeses until melted and smooth. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well
  5. Transfer the mixture to a shallow dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours
  6. Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and Panko breadcrumbs
  7. Scoop the chilled mac and cheese mixture into balls and roll in flour, dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumbs
  8. Heat oil in a pot to 350-375°F. Fry the balls in batches until golden brown (2-4 minutes)
  9. Drain on paper towels and serve warm

Notes

Chill the mac and cheese mixture for at least 4 hours to ensure it holds its shape.

For extra crispiness, you can double bread the balls.

Maintain oil temperature to prevent sogginess.
