Ingredients
2 pounds boneless chicken breast, thinly sliced
1 cup halal-certified ham, pre-sliced
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
1/2 cup all-purpose or gluten-free flour
1 cup full-fat milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into cubes
1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh or dried thyme
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Dice chicken breast into 1-inch cubes
Season chicken with salt and pepper
Dredge chicken cubes in flour
Thaw shredded Swiss cheese and crumble into small bits
Wrap each chicken cube with a piece of ham and a bit of cheese
Whisk together milk, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper
Spread half of the milk mixture in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish
Arrange wrapped chicken packets evenly in the dish
Pour the remaining milk mixture over the chicken
Top generously with breadcrumbs
Preheat oven to 425°F
Bake for 20 minutes at 425°F
Reduce oven temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 30 minutes
Allow the casserole to rest for 10 minutes before serving
Notes
Use pre-sliced halal ham for even distribution
Chill chicken packets in the fridge for 10 minutes before baking to maintain shape
Add a splash of lemon juice to the milk mixture for a hint of citrus brightness
