Ingredients
3 cups All-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Granulated sugar
1 teaspoon Fine sea salt
1 cup Unsalted butter
1/2 cup Ice water
6 medium Baking apples
1/2 cup Granulated sugar
1/4 cup Light brown sugar
1/4 cup All-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Ground cinnamo
1/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon Ground cloves
1 tablespoon Fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
1 large Egg
1 tablespoon Water or milk
2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and cut into the flour until coarse crumbs form. Gradually add ice water and mix until the dough comes together. Divide in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes
- Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly
- Assemble the Apple Slices: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out one disk of dough and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread apple filling over the dough, leaving a border. Dot with butter. Roll out the second disk of dough, place it over the filling, and seal edges. Cut slits in the top crust
- Bake: Brush the top with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake for another 35-45 minutes until golden brown and filling is bubbly
- Cool and Serve: Let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature
