Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread (about 12 cups, cubed)
- 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup melted butter
- Powdered sugar, maple syrup, or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
1. Cube French bread and place in a greased 9×13 baking dish.
2. Scatter blueberries evenly over bread.
3. Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
4. Pour custard mixture over bread and blueberries. Press gently to soak.
5. Optional: Refrigerate overnight for better flavor.
6. Mix brown sugar with melted butter. Drizzle over top.
7. Bake at 350°F for 45–55 minutes until golden brown and set.
8. Cool for 10 minutes before dusting with powdered sugar or adding maple syrup.
Notes
Use slightly stale bread for best texture.
Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
Can be made a day ahead and baked fresh in the morning.
